Gabriel Teodros, Tap Dancing and Chili Sauce
Live tap-dance version of the homie Gabriel Teodros's "Chili Sauce," my favorite track from his "Lovework" record. Tap dancing by the super dope Maya Jenkins. From the January show I was going to DJ at before mother nature got in the way. Gabe writes: This was one of my favorite moments, Chili Sauce... from one of my favorite shows, 1/9/09... when Hip Hop meets Tap. Maya Jenkins is making the beat with her feet... Aaron Walker-Loud on drums, Amos Miller on keys, Camilo Estrada on bass, Mark Oi on guitar... yours truly on vocals... and i think we finally got a band i want to tour the world with!!! peace to Temesgen for posting this up! Liquid Thoughts from Verbal Math
Some thoughts from Everydaybeats scholar and emcee Verbal Math of Dollabin on mics, life and people who sleep on J. Rawls (waay too many): Yo! This is Verb shouting you all out from Central New York. I'm out here getting started on another degree. I'm not gonna name drop the school in case I need to bitch and moan. I'm slowly getting back up to Dolla speed, getting settled and such. This photo sums it up - mic stand half assembled, but at least it's here (had to grab the suspension jawn from in Wisconsin. I'm out here). Now mic shit coming soon. More posts coming soon. Styles coming soon. Oh yeah. Damu BeatsDamu the Fudgemunk has been gettin some attention these past few months for good reason. Real nice raw beats. I especially feel this "Yes We Can" joint, as well as the new Panacea "Walk in the Park" remix (after the jump). More freshness at wonkabeats.com. everydaybeats promo videoSong playing in background is "Get There" off the upcoming Dollabin (Verbal Math & DJ Ian Head) release, "Styles You Can't Afford." Stay tuned... Check the Rhime
I know this already made the rounds of hip-hop blogs a while back, but I'm doing some writing on "The Low End Theory" (stay tuned) and ran across this again. Really vintage - Tribe doing it on Letterman back in the day. Paul Schaffer! Reborn Soul 2
REBORN SOUL 2: Evolve-One and DJ Ian Head Reborn Soul 2 is the follow-up, with each producer taking a different angle. Evolve digs even deeper into his Roberta stacks and comes back with a nice little batch of instrumentals. Ian goes back to some of his favorite beats off the original release and links them up with a few emcees flipping distinct styles on each - Verbal Math (DollaBin), Opoetik and Mouthblocks. We hope you enjoy. DOWNLOAD REBORN SOUL 2: DOWNLOAD REBORN SOUL 1: ARETHA & ROBERTA (2006) Samples from the release after the jump. Records like drugs
Questlove loves digging so much he'll buy records he already owns, and it's caused problems holding down relationships. From the Philly issue of Waxpoetics: "...Keepin a girlfriend for more than two years has taken a backseat to record shopping: something that is such a high that I'll actually buy albums over and over again just to get the high again..." Of course, when you're Questlove, you can afford to buy expensive records as many times as you want. But still, I love it any time someone speaks on the record digging addiction. The whole little interview is pretty classic, he reveals a great story Chuck D told him about stealing James Brown records from an ex-girlfriend's father's collection. Quest says that "everybody does this" and it's funny, cuz while I haven't had the chance, I remember a similar story of a friend finding a box of mint James Brown records in the attic of an ex's house, and making off with several. Records! DJ Premier speaks on the importance of vinyl
This is just classic. h/t cratekings. |
