DJ Center Vinyl - "Centers Groove" 45

"Centers Groove" 45 - Click here to listen / purchase

My man DJ Center has blessed us with a nice, exclusive vinyl selection from his album "Everything in Time." Probably my favorite cut from the LP, "Center's Groove" is the perfect instrumental for a sunny day, and I'm glad to see it on everlasting wax. Good looks to Bastard Jazz for going in and putting this out there. You can catch a remix from Captain Planet on the flip.

Gabriel Teodros & Amos Miller: Air 2 A Bird

Air 2 a Bird - Crow Hill LP from Gabe T and Amos Miller

I've been hearing about this album from Gabe and others for awhile, but am happy to finally be able to listen to it. He made this after getting "turned away" (that's putting it nicely) at Heathero Airport in London last November, cancelling his England show dates, and then getting suddenly tossed back to NYC with a month - possibly more - of unplanned time. But it turned into a kind of creative musical marathon, where he spend weeks on end in a Brooklyn studio (I barely saw him) in Crown Heights, eating ital food and recording songs. Amos Miller flew out for two weeks and I have no idea how many tracks they made, but here are a few of them, specifically using live instruments, keyboards, and - bird sound records. Oh yeah. For a record made as fall turned to winter, it's kind of amazing how sunny it sounds.

Check it out and support! More classic Seattle freshness.

DeepCrates Interview

The latest Everdaybeats interview "exclusive" happens to be with digging maniac, producer, emcee, DJ and masked villain DeepCrates, creator of the CrateShow which is in it's second season on Youtube. Instead of answering my questions via email, he had someone ask them on-camera, so we get the answers straight from the (drunken) Crates himself, dwelling in his lair.

My man is super unique and mad creative. Check out his weekly shows here: http://www.youtube.com/user/deepcrates908. He's taking you on digging trips, playing obscure records, and interviewing grumpy old record store owners. Classic.

Monthly Mixtapes: July 2010: Swing

July 2010: Swing
DJ Ian Head

It's July, summer is here, and I wanted to keep the vibe movin with something upbeat this month. Dug around in the crates for some flavorful instrumentals with that (swinging) combination of hard beats, jazzy horns and raw basslines from classic producers. Basically, this is something you can either put on the boombox and marinate to, or put on at the backyard party as the sun is setting and get your groove on. It's the swing of the drum programming or the bodies on the dancefloor - or both.

I tried to keep the selections flavor but bring back some records that might have gotten passed over or forgotten. People might be surprised by Jay Leno's voice at the start, but it gives context to the classic "Breakfast at Denny's" jazzy 90s experiment of combining DJ Premier and Branford Marsalis. Classic material.

Also, wanted to let everyone know I dropped a bonus mix of hip-hop last month - Occasional Mix #2 - which you can download by clicking here.

As KRS would say, feel the vibe, feel the beat. With so much craziness and negativity in the world right now, hopefully these mixes take your mind somewhere else for a little while. Enjoy.

Brooklyn Bodega Interview with Bobbito

Classic little interview with Bobbito. His store Footwork in the late 90s was one of the most classic spots around. A real true-school, creative, amazing cat. H/T DJ Center.
